Objective: This study aims to identify was conducted in order to determine the knowledge levels and awareness of the academics working in the departments not related to health at Atatürk University in relation to cervical cancer.
Method: No sample selection was used in the study, as the subjects of were a total of 77 academics, working in the departments and accepting participating in the study. Data of the study were collected using a 30-item containing questionnaire formed by the researcher. In the assessment of the data, arithmetic average and percentage distributions were used.
Results: According to result of the questionnaire, 40.3% of the subjects had information related to cervical cancer and 42.9% had Pap smear. And, also, 55.8% of the participants stated that a regular Pap smear should be conducted in order to avoid cancer and that there is a preventive vaccination from HPV.
Conclusion: It was concluded that the knowledge of the married female academics in relation to cervical cancer, risk factors, preventive methods, and Pap smear is not at required levels. It is suggested that educational materials should be prepared for the academics and that they should be given educational seminars.

Alanı Sağlıkla İlgili Olmayan Akademisyenlerin Serviks Kanserine İlişkin Bilgi Düzeylerinin Ve Farkındalığının İncelenmesi

Amaç: Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu çalışma, Atatürk Üniversitesine bağlı alanı sağlıkla ilgili olmayan birimlerde çalışan evli akademisyenlerin serviks kanserine ilişkin bilgi düzeylerinin ve farkındalığının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Araştırmada örneklem seçimine gidilmemiş bu birimlerde çalışan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden toplam 77 kadın araştırma kapsamına alınmıştır. Veriler, araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan toplam 30 soru içeren anket formu ile toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Akademisyenlerin %40.3’ünün serviks kanserine yönelik bilgi aldıkları, %42.9’unun Pap smear yaptırdığı belirlenmiştir Ayrıca %55.8’i serviks kanserinden korunmak için düzenli Pap smear yaptırmak gerektiğini ve HPV’den koruyucu aşıyı duyduklarını belirtmiştir.
Sonuç: Evli akademisyen kadınların serviks kanseri, risk faktörleri, korunma yolları ve Pap smear ile ilgili bilgileri istendik düzeyde değildir. Konuyla ilgili eğitim materyallerinin hazırlanarak akademisyenlere ulaştırılması ve konu ile ilgili eğitim ve danışmanlık hizmeti verilmelidir.
